Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
