One two-month journey circling the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an senior lady who was stranded by the vessel on a remote island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation discovered her person the next day.

Authorities are examining the event, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Commander" banning any further travelers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Incidents

The liner originally sailed from the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of money to join the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of trekking or snorkeling.

Relatives Response

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and grieved that the vessel left the island after an organised tour without my mother".

In her statement, she portrayed her mother as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a walking group.

"From the little details we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mother became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"They requested her to go back, alone. Then the ship sailed away, seemingly without doing a passenger count.

"During some point in that process, or not long after, mother died, without company."

Organization Response

Via official communication, the Head affirmed that the operator was "working closely with authorities to assist their inquiry".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the family.

Cruise Industry Practices

The ship serves up to a hundred twenty travelers with 46 personnel, according to corporate details. It was specially constructed to reach remote areas of the Australian coastline and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on shore trips.

Incidents of this nature are uncommon, and liners have procedures to track which individuals are getting on or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] aboard really isn't an choice," one expert commented.

Vessel operators regard these procedures extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to prevent such occurrences from happening," the authority continued.

"This seems to be most likely a stunning - and unfortunate - isolated incident."
