Google's parent company Alphabet is set to invest $15 billion to build an AI data hub in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Initiative Particulars A formal agreement to conclude the project is scheduled for signing soon, local government officials announced. "It is a significant advancement for our state's digital future, innovation, and international reputation," said the minister for technology Nara Lokesh. The project will merge computing and artificial intelligence facilities with sustainable power solutions and an enhanced optical fiber network. The State's Data Hub Strategy The project is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's plan to develop six gigawatts of data centre capacity by 2029. Data centres are actual buildings that house the computing and networking equipment that entities use to collect, process, store, and distribute data. They feature servers, data storage systems and networking hardware like firewalls and routers, combined with the required energy and climate management infrastructure to operate them. Financial Attractions Across Andhra Pradesh, the government has been offering discounted land and electricity to entice global investors. Industry Growth The country's computing facility market has expanded quickly during the last five years, surpassing the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and almost increasing threefold its capability from 2019.
